As the HIV/AIDS epidemic continues to increase the vulnerability of children, the symposium Children and HIV/AIDS: Action Now, Action How is an urgent call to collective action on behalf of children affected by AIDS. The symposium, jointly hosted by CCABA, The Teresa Group and La Casa de la Sal, will provide a two-day forum on August 1st and 2nd, 2008 at the Hotel Nikko México for information sharing, collaboration and networking in order to strengthen the response to children’s needs. It will present new findings, such as those collected by the Joint Learning Initiative on Children and HIV/AIDS. It will bring together service providers, donors, researchers, advocates and policy leaders working within affected communities and on national, regional and global platforms. And it will increase opportunities for stronger linkages between program design and implementation, policy, research, and advocacy efforts, while never forgetting that the most effective, responsive and far-reaching interventions are led by front-line organizations in collaboration with national governments. This 2-day think-tank and networking opportunity is for anyone working on issues related to children and HIV/AIDS and who is concerned about how to improve national responses at all levels of society. The topics and discussions raised here will resonate in the subsequent International AIDS Conference, where they will be championed in a plenary speech on children and HIV/AIDS given by Professor Linda Richter. The symposium is being organized by The Teresa Group in partnership with the Coalition on Children Affected by AIDS and La Casa de la Sal. Simultaneous translation from English to Spanish will be provided in a limited number of sessions. The deadline for registration and for scholarship applications has now passed.
