ENVISIONING THE FUTURE SYMPOSIUM

The Teresa Group's Envisioning the Future Symposium took place at the MaRS Centre, 101 College Street, Toronto, Canada on August 11th and 12th, 2006. It provided an international forum for discussion of best practices and emerging issues related to this population of children.

Topics included:

  • Prevention of mother to child transmission
  • Community support for orphans and vulnerable children
  • Medical care, education, children’s rights
  • Psychosocial issues – early childhood, reducing stigma
  • Children’s participation
  • Keynote Speaker: Stephen Lewis (United Nations Special Envoy on AIDS in Africa)

The Envisioning the Future Symposium was of particular interest to community organizations, researchers, health professionals and others working in the field of children affected by HIV and AIDS. It will lay the groundwork for the development of an ongoing international network or coalition of organizations and individuals working in this field.
